PosiMotion Unveils G-Fi, GPS for iPhone

Tagged:  •    •    •

PosiMotion has developed what they call "the future of mobile navigation and user-friendly location-based services" in the G-Fi. The G-Fi device combines Wi-Fi and GPS into one package so you are no longer limited to Bluetooth connectivity for wireless GPS for your devices.

PosiMotion G-Fi iPhone iPod Touch

G-Fi will work with any Wi-Fi capable device, even though it is being advertised as a GPS solution for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It will come bundled with a software navigation suite compatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch. G-Fi will supposedly enable the most precise positioning applications available while using a "simple, cross-platform software plug-in [that will] allow visualization and mapping functionality through the convenience of any computer with a web browser and internet connectivity." G-Fi will provide accurate positioning even in urban areas with buildings and tunnels.

The G-Fi is in its final stages of production and should be available within the next few months. At some point you should be able to pre-order the G-Fi, though that option is currently shaded out on their website.

I'm not sure I understand this product... Do you take around with you along with your iPhone? What is this about using "mapping functionality" through any computer with an internet connection? Why not just get a GPS handset?

I want to know how it work do you need wifi to have the maps or is a program than is in the iphone??????
