AT&T Offering 8GB iPhones for $249
It now appears that last week's rumors about AT&T selling refurbished 8GB iPhones for $249 are true. It initially sounded like you would be able to buy them in person without signing a service agreement, but according to iPhone FAQ you will still be required to sign a two year contract or extend your existing contract to take advantage of the low price. The rumors also indicated that the phones would be available at random retail outlets throughout the country, but it now looks like, at least according to Engadget, the phones will be available on AT&T's online store.

Though AT&T's offer requires users to become AT&T customers or that existing AT&T customers extend their existing contract, the $150 savings off retail may make it worth it to many customers who have been on the fence until now. A $249 price tag brings the iPhone more in line with many other smartphones in the lineups of the popular carriers.
AT&T's offer is also a lot cheaper than buying a refurbished phone from Apple, who sells them for $349. So, in less than a year, the 8GB model's price tag has dropped $350 from its initial price of $599 last June. Ouch! for those who paid that much, which includes yours truly.
