Rumors are now flying about Foxconn Electronics manufacturing 3G versions of the iPhone for delivery in June. The rumors began when the Chinese-language Commercial Times reported that foreign investors in Tapei indicated that Foxconn Electronics, currently the sole manufacturer of the iPhone, received orders from Apple to assemble second generation iPhones that support 3G.

The Commercial Times also reported that various component manufacturers had received similar orders from Apple, instructing them to begin preparing material supplies by the end of May. The shipments are expected to top 3 million in June and 24-25 million by the end of manufacture.

Although these reports are unconfirmed, industry experts expect Apple to make announcements regarding the 3G iPhone during its Worldwide Developers Conference 2008 (WWDC 2008) in June. Expectations are based on the current demand for the iPhone and the fact that such an announcement would come approximately one year after the initial release of the iPhone, a practice characteristic of Apple.
