Finally, Canon Announces US Spring Rebates
Although Spring rebates were announced in Europe and Canada several months ago, until the other day, there were no official announcements from Canon on what this Spring's rebates would be. Some, including your's truly, were beginning to wonder if the slumping US economy was going to mean no rebates for American consumers. Fear not, Canon seems just as interested in stimulating the US economy as everyone's favorite administration.
Canon's Spring 2008 rebates for the US are here, and official. What's more? They're of the instant variety. That means no UPC clipping, no pesky forms, and no 3-4 months of waiting for that rebate check. Instead, you'll get your savings instantly at checkout. The rebate period begins on May 18th, 2008 and ends on July 19th, 2008.

The rebates are hefty, too, up to $300 - depending on what Canon product you're buying. The $300 rebate is on the Canon 5D - which brings the 5D down to a very reasonable price in the $1,800-$1,900 range. Even if you're not looking at a camera that weighs in at two grand, you can still get a hefty rebate on the 40D, some $200, which is almost a thousand dollars cheaper than its older cousin (before the rebate).
There are also rebates on a variety of Canon lenses and flashes, including the 70-200mm f2.8 L IS and the Speedlite 580 EX II. Following is the full list of rebates:

Even though practically every Canon retailer has raised their prices recently due to a rise in merchandise acquisition costs from Canon, there are still plenty of savings to be had. Now you've got that excuse you were waiting for to spend your economic stimulus rebate on camera gear!
The 40D for under $1,000 is nothing you should dare shake a stick at.

Well, that settles it.
Come May 18th, buy the 5D kit for $2400, sell the 24-105 on ebay for $900, walk with a 5D for $1500.
Sweeeeeetness.
How do you know which places accept the rebate? And, how do you use it? Do you just print the flyer and bring it to the store???
Come the 18th, it will be instant rebate at the time of checkout. The retailers will apply it automatically.
Is it accepeted at all retailers...such as the Navy Exchange???
$939 for the 40D? That makes buying the XTi laughable. Sweet.
nice, cant wait for the 70-200mm f/4L price to drop again. they are all $600 now..
month ago one legit site was selling at 564$... should have pull the trigger. )=
whats a really nice price for the 70-200mm f/4L? non-imported?
$550? or lower?
The prices listed on your site are incorrect for Amazon. When you click the Amazon price for the 5D it is not $1859. It is $2019 from Amazon or $1979 from one of their 3rd party sellers. All of the Amazon prices are incorrect if you click them. I called Amazon to ask what was up and they said that their prices have not changed and this site listed them wrong.
Just wanted to let you know :)
Jennifer - Amazon is full of it. I've been watching their prices all week and they have absolutely changed. I was going to order the 5D from them but will order from Adorama now that the price changed.
It was 1859 as of Friday evening. They definitely raised them over the weekend.
All the Amazon prices look correct to me, except for the 5D which should say 1899 like the others instead of 1859.
Maybe they changed them again?
Amazon changed it again. Now it is listed at $1,918.50 with free shipping (amazon prime). That only makes it $2 cheeper then b&h after shipping. I hate that Amazon changes their prices so often.
$1918 is buying via Amazon FROM Amazon. If you buy via Amazon from Adorma (link on the right hand side), you still get the $1899 deal.
Same retailer, but you get the Amazon involvement, which some like or dislike.
Either price for a 5D is pretty sweet. :)
