3M introduces LCD projector for mobile phones
The good scientists at 3M have developed a compact LED projection engine that uses a liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) electronic imager and is specifically designed for mobile devices. The projector is about the size of a wireless earpiece and is less than half an inch thick.

It is capable of delivering a 40 inch VGA image with no speckle and a high fill factor, resulting in superior image quality. According to 3M executive VP Mike Kelly, "3M mobile projection engines achieve the size, efficiency, image quality and affordability needed for consumer adoption of this promising new product category."

Though the projector itself is available now, 3M will be partnering with leading consumer electronics companies that plan to launch products early in 2008. It shouldn't be long before we see phones with built in projectors. 3M will be displaying the projector at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next week. See more here.
