Sony Ericsson Unveils W902 and W595 Walkman Phones

Tagged:  •    •

Sony Ericsson today announced two new additions to its Walkman line of phones: the W902 and the W595. The W902 is a bar style phone while the W595 is a slider. Both feature large scratch resistant 2.2" QVGA displays. The W902 and W595 were designed so the user wouldn't have to choose between multi-media capabilities and imaging functionality. According to Ben Padley, Head of the Music Category at Sony Ericsson, "We all want more from our mobile phones than ever before... If you love music but don’t want to compromise on imaging and video, we have used our expertise as music phone specialists to give users a truly multimedia experience with this latest phone. The W902 is one of our most high-performing phones yet and perfect for those who want it all.”

The W902 has improved bass quality in addition to the superior sound quality offered by the W980, which was rated "best audio experience" earlier this month in a trial conducted by TESTfactory. The W902 also includes Sony Ericsson's HPM-77 premium headphones and sports "retro" music navigation keys: skip forward, back, play and pause with the push of a button. Not to compromise imaging, the W902 boasts a 5 megapixel camera for stills and video recording. Its 8GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) will hold more than 8,000 songs. The W902 Walkman is a UMTS/HSDPA 2100 and GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 phone.

The W595 has some unique features such as Shake control, which allows you to change your tune or volume with a flick of your wrist. It comes with a 2GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) that will hold over 1,900 songs and features a share jack that will allow a friend to plug in with his or her headphones. It also has stereo speakers and a 3.2 megapixel camera. The W595 Walkman is a GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 phone.

Both phones will be available in select markets in Q4 2008 in Active Blue, Cosmopolitan White, Jungle Grey and Lava Black. I think these guys should take some tips from Crayola when naming their colors.
