HTC Announces Sleek Looking S740
Taiwanese handset manufacturer HTC today announced the S740, a follow up to the S730 but with the design of the Diamond, minus the touch screen.

The S740 has the back of the Diamond, with many angles that make shapes that appear reminiscent of, well, diamonds. It features a slide out QWERTY keyboard for quick messaging. It sports a 2.4 inch TFT-LCD screen with backlight LEDs and QVGA resolution. It runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard and has a 528 MHz processor and 256 MB RAM. It operates on HSDPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz and GSM/GPRS/EDGE: Quad-band 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz networks and of course has Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi. The S740 is equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera that is fixed focus. It is about 4.6" x 1.7" x .6" and weighs about 5 ounces. The battery delivers 400/280 hours (WCDMA/GSM) standby and 320/380 minutes talk time. It also features a microSD slot for expandable memory. The S740 is also the first of HTC's compact sliders with GPS capability. The HSDPA offers download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and 384 kbps for uplink.
According to HTC's European vice president, Dr Florian Seiche, "The HTC S740 combines a powerful, premium phone with a full slide-out keypad in a compact and sleek form factor. Clearly, one size does not fit all and the S740 will play an important role in expanding [HTC's] growing portfolio of devices." All in all a nice looking phone, but nothing extravagant. The HTC S740 is expected to ship in Europe sometime in September. No word on price yet.
