T-Mobile to Boost 3G Network for Android Arrival
With T-Mobile's debut of the first Android phone (an HTC Dream) just five days away, the carrier today announced that it would be expanding its 3G network, which first went online in 2006. Plans include offering 3G service in several major U.S. cities by mid October, which is when the Android based HTC Dream is expected to be available (unofficial reports place availability between October 13th and 21st).
T-Mobile currently offers its 1700 MHz 3G service in Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Minneapolis, and the New York metropolitan area. If everything goes to plan, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, Philadelphia, Sacramento, San Francisco, and Seattle will be 3G ready by the time the Android phone becomes available. The network will also expand to Birmingham, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Memphis, and Tampa by year's end, bringing 3G coverage to a total 27 major U.S. markets. The company plans to continue expansion through 2009.
According Cole Brodman, chief development officer of T-Mobile USA, "With the faster data speeds delivered by our 3G network, T-Mobile looks forward to offering mobile products and services that place the full power of the Web in our customers' hands." We'll just have to assume the new Android operated HTC Dream has a 1700MHz 3G compatible radio in it.

It'a about time! I have had the T-Mobile data plan for many months, but my phone is rarely in a "3G" area where it can actually sync with my Exchange Server here in Seattle. If they don't do this soon, I'll be moving to AT&T.
Google Android (HTC Dream) vs Apple iPhone 3G -A Comparision

Hmm... from what I have read, the Android seems like it will be a sub-par product. I think I will hold on to my iPhone for now and reevaluate after a few new models come out.
