Where to Pre-Order the Canon 5D Mark II

The looooooooong awaited Canon 5D Mark II was finally announced by Canon during the pre-Photokina plethora of new photographic equipment announcements. Whether you're an old 5D stalwart that's ready to upgrade, or one of the countless Canon faithful that have been putting off buying the old 5D or switching to Nikon, chances are you're absolutely itching to get your hands on the new 5D MkII.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

The EOS 5D Mark II has received several updates, making it well worth the three year wait. Its full frame sensor has been upped to 21.1 megapixels and it has a 3 inch high resolution LCD, compared to the 2.5" screen of the 5D. Canon has added LiveView shooting and the sensitivity range has been boosted to ISO 50 - ISO 25,600. There are now 15 auto focus points as opposed to 9, and continuous speed has been raised from 3 to 3.9 fps. Canon has also added HD (1920×1080,16:9) video capture at 30 fps.

According to Canon the 5D Mark II is scheduled to ship by the end of November for an estimated retail price of $2,699 (body only), or in a kit version with Canon's EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens at an estimated retail price of $3,499. The good news is that merchants are slowly making pre-order options available. As we saw with the first 5D, the Nikon D300, the Nikon D3, the Canon 50D, and basically every highly anticipated DSLR that comes to market -- those that don't pre-order often end up waiting 3 months, 6 months or even longer to get their hands on a body. That said, if you want to get your hands on the new 5D Mark II, your best bet is to pre-order the camera and thus reserve your place in line ASAP. Below you'll find a list of merchants that are currently offering pre-ordering for the Canon 5D MkII. Check back frequently as we'll keep updating the list as new merchants make advance ordering available.

Retailers offering Canon 5D Mark II Pre-Ordering

Ritz Camera ($2699 body, $3499 kit)
Calumet Photographic ($2699 body, $3499 kit)
Wolf Camera ($2699 body, $3499 kit)

Just ordered mine through Adorama.

Have you seen the first images and video out of this camera? I'm taking *NO* chances on this one being backordered!

I'm going with Ritz. They always seem to get the largest stock due to their massive size. More 5D II's, quicker shipments.

Ritz order is in!

Don't take chances on this one if you want this camera in 2008. Local dealers I've talked to said their Canon reps have indicated initial shipments aren't expected to meet demand.

Get in line now, or be left out in the cold (or end up paying double on eBay!).
