LG Announces KP500, Affordable Touch Phone
Korean technology leader LG Electronics today announced the launch of its new, "attractively priced" LG KP500 touchscreen phone. The phone is intended to bring the features found in high-end touchscreen phones to a more affordable phone accessible to the masses.

According to Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, "The feedback we receive from consumers around the world indicate that there’s more people who wish to try the latest touch screen phones...We want to reach out to this group and LG KP500 is our answer to deliver a high quality full touch screen phone that is easy to use and much easier to afford. Within reach of many consumers, we hope that more people will experience the joy of using the latest touch screen technology with LG KP500.”
LG has been steadily improving its touchscreen technology ever since the debut of its first touchscreen phone, the LG Prada. With its continuing advancements in touch technology, LG believes the KP500 will have touch precision equal to, if not better than, the top touchscreens currently available.
Not many details were released in the announcement. We do know that it is a GSM phone that will operate in four frequency bands. It will also be available in 39 different languages upon its release. It will also feature a three inch screen which will display LG's latest UI. "[LG] optimized the user interface to keep the tactile operations smooth and simple which is necessary when you’re opening up a new technology to a wide group of people," according to Ahn. The KP500 also comes with a stylus that is used for editing photos and for a handwriting recognition program that allows the user to write memos and text messages. The phone features a full, onscreen QWERTY keyboard that appears when the phone is held in landscape position. So, yes, it does have a built in motion sensor, and it comes with several games that use the technology.
The KP500 will be available in Europe by the end of October and to the rest of the world shortly after. The phone will come in black, Vandyke brown, Anodizing silver, and Elegant gold. The attractive price will be announced at launch.
