Taiwanese handset manufacturer HTC has announced its latest mobile phone/personal navigation device, the Touch Cruise. The Touch Cruise is basically an update of 2008's popular HTC Touch, with a more compact build and plenty of new features.

Most notable among the new features is HTC's Footprints application, which will make its debut on the Touch Cruise. Footprints allows the user to keep a detailed account of any places they visit or moments they have that are of particular import, be it a memorable restaurant, store or other location, a great photo moment, or any other of innumerable reasons. The app basically lets the user capture a "digital postcard" on their phone in the form of a picture accompanied by notes and audio clips. Footprints geo-tags it with the coordinates and a name that includes its general location, allowing users to retrace their steps simply by flipping through their photo albums (hence the 'Footprints' title), a great feature for travelers. According to Peter Chou, President and CEO, HTC Corporation, "Just as we have seen GPS technology transform how people navigate to new places, we are now seeing location-based applications like HTC Footprints changing how we interact and carry our memories."

In addition to Footprints, the Touch Cruise comes with car cradle that allows it to double as an in-car navigation system. Its TouchFLO technology offers the user an easy-to-use one touch interface for navigation that provides turn-by-turn directions.
