Nokia Announces Three New 'Classic' Series Phones

Nokia today unveiled three new phones that will bolster its highly successful Classic series of mobile phones. The new trio includes the Nokia 6700 Classic, the Nokia 6303 Classic and the Nokia 2700 Classic.

Nokia 6700 Classic

The piece de résistance of the new collection is the 6700 Classic. The 6700 comes from the 6300 lineage, one of Nokia's most successful phones. Because the device "shares the same DNA as its predecessor," Nokia Senior Vice President Soren Petersen "believe that it will be one of [Nokia's] best selling devices in 2009." According to Petersen, "The Nokia 6300 raised the bar in terms of design and premium materials when it arrived in 2006 and topped all sales records for a mid-range mobile phone. The Nokia 6700 moves that bar even higher with a beautiful, slim design and perfectly balanced practicality." The 6700 is crafted from quality materials and features a full metal keymat. It is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera, assisted GPS navigation with Nokia Maps and high speed data access. The 6700 is expected to retail for about $310 USD.

Nokia 6303 Classic

The Nokia 6303 Classic is a slightly improved 6300. It has a 2.2" screen and a 3.2 megapixel camera. It has a music player and a standard 3.5mm audio jack. The 6303 will go for about $180 USD.

Nokia 2700 Classic

The Nokia 2700 Classic rounds out the collection as one of Nokia's most affordable full-feature phones. At just 65 Euro or about $86 USD, the 2700 has a 2 megapixel camera and offers 2GB of storage via a memory card slot. According to Petersen, "These features mean people can save, access and share files in hundreds of formats via Nokia's online service, Share on Ovi, or a number of other websites. The rich features and simple interface mean that in many cases, the Nokia 2700 classic will provide its owner's first Internet experience."

All three phones are expected to ship in Q2 2009.
