Sony Ericsson Announces New Cyber-shot and Walkman Handsets

Sony Ericsson today announced that it will be adding the C903 to its popular Cyber-shot line. The handsets in this series have traditionally been designed with photography as the key feature. The C903 Cyber-shot continues this trend.

The C903 Cyber-shot is a slider style phone that, according to Global Business Marketing Manager at Sony Ericsson Daniel Sandblom, "adds a creative and stylish mobile phone to our mid-range segment... [and] furthers Sony Ericsson’s digital camera heritage and makes capturing special images even more memorable.” The C903 is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera and is capable of up to 16X digital zoom. It features Face Detection which will find up to three faces in a frame, as well as Smile Shutter, which will focus on smiles. The BestPic feature lets you to take up to nine photographs in rapid succession, allowing you to choose the best one and dump the rest. The handset has dedicated camera buttons as well as a sliding protective cover for the lens. Pictures can be displayed on the C903's 2.4", 240 x 320 pixel screen or on a large screen using a TV-Out cable.

Aside from its photography attributes, the C903 features all the music and entertainment capabilities you would want, including a media player, FM radio, web browser, etc. It is also equipped with aGPS for all of your location based needs. This will also allow you to tag pictures based on location. The C903 supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSPA 900/2100. It will be available in Lacquer Black, Techno White and Glamour Red sometime in Q2. No word on pricing yet.

Sony Ericsson also announced the W395 Walkman phone which is aimed at the younger crowd. According to Alexandre Cardon, Global product marketing manager (music) at Sony Ericsson, "Sony Ericsson takes pride in understanding the youth market, and the W395 is a mobile phone that caters to all their needs with great music quality... [Sony Ericsson's] most affordable Walkman slider phone to date allows users to share music with friends as well as video clips and photos for the ultimate entertainment experience.”

The W395 features stereo speakers with high quality bass and comes with a stereo headset. The PlayNow feature allows you to download a full range of entertainment content, ranging from unique themes and wallpaper to specialized ring tones. When you are not sure of the title of a particular song the TrackID feature will help you track it down. It also has a 2 megapixel camera, 2.5X digital zoom, video recording and a 2" display. It supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and will be available in Dusky Grey and Blush Titanium in select markets from Q1. No information on its price yet.
