Verizon Wireless Announces WeatherBug Protect
Verizon Wireless and WeatherBug today unveiled WeatherBug Protect, an application deseigned to bring the most relevant and up to date weather information to Verizon Wireless customers' mobile phones.

WeatherBug Protect is intended to bring weather notifications to Verizon Wireless customers, wherever they may be, giving them advanced warning of severe weather conditions, be it snow and ice, tornadoes, lightning, excessive heat or any other potentially dangerous conditions. The application uses the handset's GPS and WeatherBug's national network of weather sensors (which is the world's largest network of sensors) to provide customers with real-time, local alerts along with notifications from the National Weather Service via text message. The customer will also be provided with a variety of other resources including radar and satellite imagery.

WeatherBug Protect is a comprehensive service that combines the best-of-breed in alerting, location-based services and accurate weather coverage with the nation’s most reliable wireless network.” Vice president and general manager of mobile WeatherBug, Chris Brozenick added that "WeatherBug is committed to empowering people with relevant weather information to help them make informed decisions. We are passionate about enhancing customers’ safety for activities impacted by weather, from common occurrences such as an approaching lightning storm to severe situations such as the ice storms many parts of the country recently experienced... We are extremely pleased to extend the reach of WeatherBug Protect to millions of Verizon Wireless customers while they are at work or on-the-go.”
