Where to Pre-Order the Nikon D300S
Nikon today unveiled its new D300S and announced that it would be available for pre-order immediately. The D300S is, according to Robert Cristina, Manager, Professional Products for Nikon Europe, "designed for today’s generation of creative image makers who want to combine brilliant stills in photography with the creative potential of video capture. The DX format has the advantage of lens magnification, compact size and affordability making the D300S a really exciting package for anyone looking to take their photography to another level”.

The D300S is built upon the popular D300 and has the same DX-format 12.3 megapixel CMOS sensor, 51-point autofocus system and EXPEED image processor. One of the new features on the D300S is the addition of external stereo sound input to the HD movie capture. There is also a new dedicated LV button to easily switch between stills and video recording. The D300S is also the first camera in its class to feature dual slot storage media, giving you both CF (Compact Flash) and SD (Secure Digital) and letting you choose how the camera stores data to them.
The D300S has a Scene Recognition System that uses information from the 1,005-pixel RGB sensor to adjust settings such as autofocus, exposure, i-TTL flash control and white balance to capture the best possible image. The Live View function allows you to compose your picture on the camera's 3 inch LCD.
The DX-format CMOS image sensor delivers images through a wide ISO sensitivity range - 200 to 3200. It also has a Lo1 setting equivalent to ISO 100 and a Hi1 setting equivalent to ISO 6400. The camera is also capable of shooting at 7 frames per second.
The Nikon D300S is expected to ship in late August but is available for pre-order now from several retailers:
