Sprint, Samsung Announce Instinct HD

Sprint and Samsung have announced soon-to-be availability of the Instinct HD, the newest incarnation of Samsung's popular Instinct. It will be both companies' first phone with HD photo and video recording capabilities.

Samsung Instinct HD

The Instinct HD operates on Sprint's 3G network and has all of the features of its predecessor including the intuitive interface, Visual Voicemail, Sprint TV, stereo Bluetooth 2.0, support for personal and corporate email, GPS, etc. The Instinct HD improves upon this with the addition of a full Opera Mobile 9.7 browser, WiFi capabilities, an Ambient Light Sensor and an accelerometer. It also features a Proximity Sensor with haptic feedback that causes the phone to gently vibrate with each keystroke of the virtual QWERTY keyboard.

The major addition to the Instinct HD, however, is the high-definition 5.0 megapixel camera and camcorder. It also has a TV out HD connection, allowing for photo and video playback on your HD TV. According to Omar Khan, senior vice president of strategy and product management for Samsung Mobile, "Samsung Instinct HD ups the ante with the full Opera Mobile 9.7 Web browser, WiFi connectivity and a 5-megapixel camera and camcorder, which allows the user to take high resolution pictures and HD-quality video... What sets Instinct HD apart even more is the ability to view those pictures and video on your HDTV or other HD-compatible monitor through the device’s HDTV out connection. These improvements raise the Instinct handset portfolio to a whole new level.”

The Samsung Instinct HD will be available nationwide at Best Buy starting on September 27 and will be available at Sprint stores and online on October 11. The Instinct HD will retail for $249.99 with a new two year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate.
