Twitter: Black Friday Deals are Streaming Already
Black Friday is on the iPhone (tgiBlackFriday), Black Friday is on Facebook and MySpace, naturally - Black Friday is on Twitter. Oh, is it ever on Twitter. With the recent explosion of everything Twitter, it is standard practice for there to be hundreds of incarnations of everything on Twitter. Usually, these are little more than redundant. In the case of Black Friday, however, Twitter's fast and lightweight micro-blogging format may work better than other formats when it comes to covering the overwhelming volume of deals and promotions featured by advertisers for Black Friday.
In a recent search for tweets containing "Black Friday", over 500 new black friday related tweets popped up within a minute or two of our initial search. Another minute or two later, a few hundred more. Some of these are simply people "talking" about Black Friday, but more often than not, they are one of hundreds of micro-bloggers, such as @CouponLand, posting links to Black Friday deals they've encountered in their web surfing travels.
Those of you following Black Friday on Twitter, or elsewhere, most likely already know that retailers kicked off many of their special holiday deals days ago hoping for early bird action from anxious shoppers. Black Friday has become Black Friday week, evidently.
With hundreds of new Black Friday tweets coming out every minute, chances are you shouldn't try to read them all. Here are a few Twitter feeds worth following as you deal hunt this holiday weekend:
@CouponLand - regularly updated deals, coupon codes, etc
@BlackFriday - regularly updated deals, links to BF news articles & blogs
@CheapTweet - popular Twitter deal resource, in full BF mode
Retailers are expecting 2009 to be the biggest online shopping year ever, and the biggest online Black Friday event as well. Twitter may well be one of the best resources for keeping up with the flood of holiday deals littering the net.
