Although Spring rebates were announced in Europe and Canada several months ago, until the other day, there were no official announcements from Canon on what this Spring's rebates would be. Some, including your's truly, were beginning to wonder if the slumping US economy was going to mean no rebates for American consumers. Fear not, Canon seems just as interested in stimulating the US economy as everyone's favorite administration.

In the last few weeks, US prices from the usual best-price outlets for camera equipment - such as B&H Photo and Adorama - have been trending upward for the first time in months. Speculation has suggested that the price increases are in anticipation of coming Spring rebates from Canon similar to the rebate programs currently running in Germany, the UK, and most recently - Canada. This afternoon, however, an unwir3d reader sent in a tip on price lower than we've seen on the 5D previously, and it looks legit.

Today Canon launches its newest D-SLR, the EOS 450D. The camera features a 12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor, EOS integrated Cleaning System, a 3" LCD with Live View mode and a new nine point AF system. The 450D has all of the features of the EOS-1 series, including the DIGICIII

image processor and a redesigned menu system. It is also customizable, with 13 functions that can be adjusted by the user to his/her shooting style.

On the outside the 450D closely resembles the 400D, but there are many significant improvements,
