Canon's Rebel line of lightweight compact DSLRs has a new flagship in the EOS 500D, also known as the Rebel T1i. The 500D takes the top upper-entry-level DSLR position over the ever popular Rebel XS and Rebel XSi models. According to Rainer Fuehres, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging, Europe, “The EOS 500D pushes the boundaries of what photographers can demand from their cameras, combining exceptional images with full HD video... Photography enthusiasts can now capture their most significant moments in a manner that matches their creativity.” Though just announced on Wednesday, the 500D is already available for pre-order from some retailers.

The 500D boasts a 15.1 MP APS-C CMOS sensor which, at 22.3 x 14.9mm, is slightly larger than the XSi's sensor (22.2 x 14.8mm). More importantly, however, is the expanded ISO sensitivity - the new sensor runs from 100 to 3200 with expanded settings of 6400 and 12800, allowing photographers to work in even the dimmest conditions.
The 500D is equipped with the DIGIC 4 processor which is capable of continuous shooting speeds of up to 3.4 fps in bursts of up to 170 JPEGs or 9 RAW frames. Unlike the XSi, the T1i can capture RAW

The 500D's 15.1 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor is ideal for large prints and offers greater cropping possibilities. The camera also offers ISO sensitivity up to 3200, which is expandable up to 12800, allowing photographers to shoot in near dark conditions.
The DIGIC 4 image processor, in conjunction with the CMOS sensor, delivers "exceptional noise reduction and 14-bit image processing for smooth gradation of tones and natural-looking colours." The processor is fast as well, offering ultra-fast start-up times and quick image review. The DIGIC 4 is

Best Point and Shoot Cameras of 2008
With the holiday season here and the new year quickly approaching, it's time to take a look at some of this year's best point and shoot digital cameras. If you want a nice, compact, portable digital camera to capture the many moments that happen at this time of year then one of these cameras should be perfect for you or as a gift.
First off let's take a look at some of the reasons you might want a point and shoot over a dSLR. DSLRs offer better image quality because they have larger image processors. You can change the lens on a DSLR which makes them highly adaptable to various situations and offers many creative possibilities to photographers. DSLRs also offer a large ISO range, which allows for shooting in different conditions. You get more control with a DSLR as well because everything can be done manually, as opposed to many point and shoots. Also, what you see through the optical viewfinder on a DSLR is what you get,

Canon 5D Mark II Begins Shipping Tomorrow, Nov 25th
In our article published a few days ago announcing the sale of the 5D Mark II in China, we anticipated hopefully that a US release was just around the corner. It turns out that it was - the long awaited Canon EOS 5D Mark II, which was originally announced way back on September 16th, will finally begin shipping tomorrow, Tuesday November 25th.
According to Chuck Westfall, Technical Advisor at Canon USA, the highly anticipated DSLR will begin shipping from Canon USA warehouses tomorrow and arriving at retailers shortly thereafter. This means that, depending on shipping times and how quickly dealers can handle the incoming stock, those customers savvy enough to have pre-ordered their cameras could have them in hand by the end of the week. Although it has not yet been confirmed whether or not 5D Mark II accessories will be shipping tomorrow, Westfall did indicate earlier this month that certain key items such as the Battery Pack LP-E6, Battery Grip BG-E6, Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E4/E4A and EG-series focusing screens would ship around the same time as the camera.

A number of RAW files and sample photos from Chinese units have already been popping up around the web, soon to be joined by plenty of U.S. specimens. Canadians will be adding their contributions
Canon 5D Mark II Released in China, Available at Retailers in Beijing
After what has likely seemed like an eternity to those who pre-ordered the new Canon 5D Mark II (though in reality it has only been a little over two months), the first production models of Canon's new 21.1 megapixel full-frame dSLR are now being sold at retail locations. In China, at least. Units have been spotted and purchased in retail shops in Beijing. The photo below (via DPReview forums) shows a Canon 5D Mark II kit being removed from a display case in a Beijing camera shop.

Retailers in China reportedly have the 5D Mark II kits (which includes Canon's 24-105mm L lens) in stores at this point, though supposedly
