PMA 2009: Sony Unveils DSC-HX1
Sony's new DSC-HX1 Cyber-shot camera will be the company's first digital still camera to feature sweep panorama technology. It will also be the first camera in the Cyber-shot line to feature Sony's 1/2.4 inch Exmor CMOS sensor and the first to have HD movie recording capability, two more reasons that make the HX1 one of Sony's highlights at this year's Photo Marketing Association expo in Las Vegas.

The HX1 differs from most other digital still cameras in that it uses a mechanical shutter rather than an electronic shutter, which helps reduce distortion while shooting a moving subject. Also, while in hand-held twilight or anti-blur modes, the HX1 can supposedly capture images with up to 50 percent less noise than those captured by traditional sensors. According to Karim Noblecilla, senior product

- Sensitivity equivalent to 90mV in 1.75µm unit cell - "Column-Parallel A/D Conversion method" achieves high frame rates:
- "IMX060PQ" : 10fps
- "IMX046PQ"/"IMX045PQ" : 15fps - Industry's smallest and thinnest lens module, also equipped with lens, auto-focus and Interface functions
- Unique lens design to achieve high resolution
- "Piezo" type lens motor that reduces power consumption when shooting video images
- Equipped with 28mm wide-angle lens (35mm conversion) popular in digital cameras ("IU060F" only)
The sensor and lens modules will ship at various times over the next year. The Exmor Type 1/3.2 8.11 effective megapixels CMOS Image sensor "IMX046PQ" supposedly will ship this month while the
